ImacWindowsAs if I need yet another reason to send my current PowerBook to the ebay chopping-block, Apple seems to find a way to make the device yet more powerful.

I have had a powerbook now for 2 years. I originally went with the powerbook because of the BSD based o/s and I’m a heavy unix/linux user. This combined with being a security professional and most of the security tools are linux based was a great reason to make my first Apple purchase. I currently run many unix/X applications on my powerbook and it has been a fantastic tool. The only reason I keep around a PC is the few applications that will only run on the PC such as Visio & MS Project.

So with Apple Boot Camp, Apple has essentially created a dual boot package for their Intel-based macs. The dual boot software includes all of the Windows drivers required as well as a boot-loader. You bring your copy of windows to the table. I think this is a fascinating business tactic….I mean what would have it been like to be a fly on the wall in those discussions in Cupertino? Is this a method to bring over possible Windows converts? Or will this be a way to use powerfull Apple hardware to run Windows?

Personally if I just wanted to run Windows on a fast box, I should be able to do it for much less than $2,500.

Beer, peanuts and talk of the good ‘ol days

openingday2006 opening day at the ballpark is 8 years now that I’ve been to opening day. It started in 1998 when my company was acquired by Stone Investments. There were a few guys going to opening day and myself and Brando were invited to tag along. So now, 8 years later we still make the pilgrimage to the ballpark with the same folks.

Now if only the Rangers could have pulled out the win…
