In early 2005 Microsoft announced the acquisition of the anti-virus software company Sybari. I had long wondered why Microsoft hadn’t yet entered the a/v space….but I admit I didn’t see the entire collaboration of the “software as a service” model coming from Microsoft so soon.
With the push of newer “web 2.0″ technologies and the ever decreasing of the distributed world, more and more software companies are leveraging this swing with “software as a service” based revenue models. It is impressive to me to see how quickly Microsoft reacted.
In line with Microsoft’s push for more of a “software as a service” type of model, Microsoft announced Microsoft One Care a security subscription service aimed at providing better protection for their Windows operating system.
The proof, however, is in the pudding. How well will Microsoft be able to defend their own software which is the major target for most of the mal-ware in existance today?
