A Christmas with a special meaning for me
Posted on Wednesday December 24th 2008, 9:20 pm by admin

Well, here we are, Christmas time again.

I think back on Christmas 2007 and how different and far away it now seems. The worries that I had back then were so meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Look around you this year and be thankful for the special people in your life and realize that they are all that really matters.

As cliche as it sounds, Christmas this year for me…..

the Christmas lights are a little brighter

the cookies a little sweeter

the toys a little more fun

the sparkle in my kids eyes is a little brighter

….and all my friends and family are closer to me than ever before.

Thanks to each and every one of you for your support throughout this tough year. It means the world to me.

Merry Christmas

PET Scan Results
Posted on Tuesday December 09th 2008, 3:13 pm by admin

PET scan results are completely clean and cancer free!!

They have some concerns over my CEA count. My CEA last week was 4. My previous CEA was 4.2. Normal is 0-3. So it is coming down — but they want to check it again next week.

But great news on the scan!!

My final PET scan
Posted on Sunday December 07th 2008, 9:25 am by admin

I coordinated my final PET scan with a business trip back to Arkansas this week. I hope that I will recieve the results early next week. When they do a PET scan they inject you with a short-lived radioactive isotope (doesn’t that sound comforting). The picture on the right is them injecting the isotope. But you don’t feel anything from it and it actually has a half life of 110minutes so it’s gone pretty quickly. The scan measures the metobolic activity on a regional basis. Cancerous cells will have a much higher activity rate than others so they show up. It’s all better explained here. My oncologist has the expectation that the scan will be clean.

Other than that, I’m finally all moved (not all unpacked) and trying to get back into a routine. Work has been very busy lately and I’m hoping for a lull over the holidays.

I will post again as soon as I have the results of the PET scan.
